Real Goods Solar Spearheads “Advance Selma” Cooperative Program
SELMA, CA September 12, 2013 – Real Goods Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: RSOL), a nationwide leader of turnkey solar energy solutions for residential, commercial, and utility customers, has launched a community solar discount program that will be part of the Advance Selma program, a community-based initiative in Selma, Calif. focused on sustainability, the environment, and economic development. Through its participation and leadership in the Advance Selma program, Real Goods Solar will provide Selma-based residents with discounted pricing for solar through tiered community-based incentives.
Spearheaded by Real Goods Solar, the 12-month Advance Selma program is a unique cooperative between public and private organizations that are looking to increase economic development and utilize renewable energy. As part of the program, Real Goods Solar will provide free business and home energy audits and as more members of the community take part, greater savings can be realized for all participants. Additionally, residents can take advantage of a $2,000 solar installation discount.

A number of organizations with vested interest in the city of Selma are slated to participate in the program. These organizations include: Central Valley Business Incubator (CVBI), Water and Energy Technology Center (WET), City of Selma, Selma Chamber of Commerce, Valley Green Team, Valley Yellow Pages/Buy Local, and Selma Unified School District.
In addition to home and business solar audits from Real Goods Solar, the Advance Selma program will include a Buy Local Campaign, ‘Recycled Art’ School District Contest, “Farm to Fork” Program, Blue Tech Valley, Central Valley Online Incubator Program and an Education Program. Educational seminars will take place throughout the length of the program and will focus on a number of topics, including clean energy, efficient buildings, healthy homes, economic development, transportation, food, waste and citizenship.
Advance Selma will officially kickoff with a launch event at Selma’s City Hall on Thursday, September 19 from 11am – 1pm PST. Champions of the program, including representatives from Real Goods Solar, will be onsite to celebrate the commencement of the program.
