RGS Energy is a Solarize Mass Installer

THE SOLARIZE MASS PROGRAM

RGS Energy is proud to have once again been selected as a Solarize Mass installer. This year’s program was a huge success as we installed over 1,500 kW of solar power for residents of Adams, Great Barrington-Egremont, Salem-Swampscott, and Williamsburg-Whately-Chesterfield. Three of these programs reached the best price tier, and all homeowners who participated can look forward to decades of cleaner, more affordable energy with solar power.

Solarize Mass FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

[one_half]
[toggle_content title=”What is Solarize Mass?”]
Solarize Mass is a partnership between the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), local officials, and community volunteers.

The program uses a tiered group purchasing model that lowers the cost of solar for everyone in a given town as more of its residents sign up to have solar energy installed.
[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”Who is RGS Energy?”]
RGS Energy, formerly Real Goods Solar, is one of the oldest, largest, and most trusted clean energy EPC providers in the country. We were the installer for three Solarize Mass towns last year: Northampton, Lee, and Williamstown. Between the three towns, we contracted 220 solar power systems capable of generating over 1,500 kW of clean energy.
[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”Why go solar?”]
Solar is a clean, renewable source of electricity that promotes American job growth and supports domestic energy independence. The simplicity of solar power systems make their electricity less expensive than utility power in most cases. Solar electricity is reliable, noiseless, and adds value to your property without increasing your property taxes.
[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”What are the requirements to participate?”]
The home or business must get or have had a free energy assessment from Mass Save in the last five years. Visit www.MassSave.com to schedule an energy assessment.

Sites must also

  1. Be located at residential, commercial, public, or other private property in a sanctioned Solarize Mass town, and
  2. Have sufficient solar exposure to participate (RGS Energy will determine this for you after receiving your call or form submission above)

[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”Is Solarize Mass for solar hot water too?”]
No, only solar electric (photovoltaic, or PV) systems are eligible for discounted pricing through the Solarize Mass program.
[/toggle_content]
[/one_half]

[one_half_last]
[toggle_content title=”Do I have to pay for my solar system up front?”]
No. There are different options for paying for your system.

  1. Pay little or $0 upfront with a solar PPA, where RGS Energy is responsible for owning, installing, and maintaining the system and you simply buy the electricity you use from it at a low, fixed rate.
  2. Purchase a solar energy system for the greatest long-term savings, the ability to receive federal and state tax credits and sell SRECs (Solar Renewable Energy Certificates), and get free electricity once your system’s electricity savings have paid for itself.

[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”How does the program offer solar at a reduced cost?”]
Bulk purchasing of solar equipment allows RGS Energy to save on the cost of materials, and community volunteers marketing the program for RGS Energy helps them save even more. These reductions in cost are passed directly to Solarize Mass participants, and as higher tiers are reached as more people sign up, the price drops for everyone. So it pays to spread the word!
[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”Will I need batteries for my solar system?”]
No. RGS Energy installs solar power systems that are tied to the existing electrical grid, which eliminates the need for batteries.
[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”Will my power stay on during a utility power outage?”]
No. Because solar systems are connected to the grid, they pose a serious risk to utility workers working to restore power. For this reason, your solar system will shut down automatically during a utility power outage.
[/toggle_content]

[toggle_content title=”What happens if I move?”]
If you have a solar PPA, it can be transfered to the new homeowner or bought out and rolled into your home’s sale price.

If you purchased your system, it is a valuable home improvement asset because it reduces your electric bills without increasing your property taxes. You will be able to sell your home for more if it includes an asset like this.
